The Homegrown Project with support from Aluna Theatre and Watercourse Theatre presents
HOMEGROWN
(Toronto – July 22, 2010)  Homegrown is the true story of law school graduate and playwright Catherine Frid, who meets a prisoner accused of being one of the Toronto 18. This controversial new play will be presented as part of the SummerWorks Festival at Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace from August 5 – 14.

Do our police orchestrate terrorism rather than preventing it? In Homegrown, a Toronto woman visits a ‘homegrown terror’ suspect in jail, over a period of a year and a half, and she becomes obsessed with separating fact from hype in the face of the uncertainty, delays and secrecy in his case. Homegrown explores who the real victims are in the war on terror.

Homegrown is directed by Beatriz Pizano, winner of this year’s John Hirsch national directing award, with scenography by Trevor Schwellnus and sound design by Thomas Ryder Payne, both multiple Dora-award winners, and a cast of talented professionals Shannon Perreault (If We Were Birds), Lwam Ghebrehariat (Twelfth Night, Dream in High Park), Keith Barker (The Making of St. Jerome), Omar Hady, Nabeel Salameh and Razi Shawahdeh.
